About the Project

Towering above the Dubai skyline, the Burj Khalifa is symbolic of the city’s emergence as one of the world’s top business and tourist destinations. The magnificent tower houses residences, a hotel and various commercial spaces, but its most popular attractions are the two observation decks located at the 124th and 148th floors. For visitors, the enthralling experience of visiting At The Top starts right from the moment they start to queue up to book their tickets. An extraordinary union of tasteful design, precision engineering and meticulous craftsmanship, the entrance lobby to the observation deck was created to give visitors a small glimpse of the beauty that awaits them a hundred storeys higher.

The Challenge

While procuring the glass for the lobby to Dubai’s most well-known tourist attraction, we left no stone unturned in sourcing the highest grade materials. The customer had very specific needs regarding the colour of the panels. Achieving the right PVB colour combination was one of the biggest challenges we faced on this project. Further, we had to ensure that the glass used was durable and the coloured films did not fade over time. Working with Seele proved to be both demanding and rewarding. The company, known for developing Apple stores across the world, wanted to inspect every single pane of glass so that it met their high quality requirements. Thi

Key facts about the project

In order to meet the client’s dynamic colour requirements, we created a number of samples using Vanceva®’s range of coloured PVBs. Our team worked relentlessly to provide the architect with high-quality samples as quickly as possible to ensure that the project progressed without any delays. Once the colour palette was finalised, we used the PVBs in combination with SPECTROVIEW colour laminated glass. The laminated unit, which was 25 mm thick, wasn’t just aesthetically pleasing, but also met strict safety guidelines.

The intralayer of the panels is made with heat- and light-stable colourants, which are able to resist fading over time. After our team fabricated panels of the required size, the panels were run through a battery of tests to meet the most stringent quality standards. Most importantly, we were able to procure panels that needed minimum maintenance, making it the best choice for a bustling tourist attraction.

The Outcome

The SPECTROVIEW panels we used have provided the area with a dynamic effect that enhances the overall elegance of the building’s interiors. The panels used are highly durable, ensuring that the glass structure always looks its best. The partitions delivered offer a vibrant mix of colours, which allowed us to bring the architect’s vision to life without compromising on structural integrity.
